Times up...

Well this blogs been officially dead for some time now.
Ive decided that my lifes been taken in another direction, and although i still do love bicycles, i simply no longer have bicycle related things to update about.
Although thats not the main reason i created this blog in the first place.
I made it...well just to blog about what was surrounding me at the time (which was Fukuoka).
I made some great internet friends through this, and i hope they continue to update their bike related blogs as usual.
Oh and if you guys want to take this blog off your "lists", please feel more than free to!
Its been a great year with you, flying helmet.

最近全く更新してないね。
自転車乗る時間もないし、正直ネタもなくなった。

自分にとって、福岡で過ごした一年間の思い出にしとく。

New whip #1...

i know i know...i havent been updating like i said i would. im workin on it...haha.
well heres another shot of the new whip. ive been meaning to take my bike out and snap some nice shots with a nice background, but you know...i just dont really have that much time.

Day off...

Yah i know i said i wouldnt be updating too much about bike stuff anymore, but im almost done building my 3rd whip. Well, im practically done, like 95% done...if that makes any sense to anyone. The spent the other day literally grinding down the side walls of my MKS Sylvan pedals to fit my Toshi doubles. What a loser huh...ha.

この前の休みの日・・３台目のストラップの取り付け作業を終わらせた。

TOSHIのダブルストラップがかなりぶ厚くて、ペダルの横を削らなきゃいけなかった。

ちょっと大変な作業。でも一時間ぐらいで完成・・・

あともう一つ気になるとこがあって、そこを自分の好みに合わせたらチャリが完成。

So after days of thinking, ive decided to go ahead and keep this blog alive (or whatevers left of it). Since there are practically no more bike shops where i live now (japans 3rd largest city of Nagoya), im not surrounded by the abundance of information as i was when i was residing in Fukuoka. This blog is definitely gonna be taking a change in direction; whereas i mostly wrote about bikes, ill now be updating more about my personal life. Ill be squeezing in updates about bikes here and there as i am still building my 3rd bike (which pretty much no one knows about ha). If ur bored, swing by and take a look.

DIY Bling Bling...

Yup im still here. Work has been super duper hectic so i havent had time AT ALL to ride my bikes. Ive been meaning to update this blog (really i have), but my schedules just jam packed. As most of you already know i havent, and wont be, able to update this mug like i used to. Im guessing ill try to update maybe once or twice a week if possible. Check a couple times a week to see wuts goin on...

Last week, i visited a friends shop located conviniently 5 min away from my house. The shop owner (Kakizawa-san http://4-5sanpokai.com/blog/kakizawa/ ) figured a way to "melt" away the (im not really sure what they call it in the english speaking world, but we call it "almight" here in japan) somewhat foggy layer you find on aluminum parts. Hard to describe but the pictures will describe it.

Let me start off by saying itll really take some balls to do this yourself without any experience, but i was lucky enough to have Kakizawa-san teach me the ropes first hand. Basically, by doing this, you can make your "dull" looking stem, crank, hubs, handle, etc., bling bling. So here we go...

最近仕事の都合でめちゃくちゃ忙しい。ブログも更新できず、写真さえ撮ってない。更新したい気持ちがいっぱいなんだけど、まじ無理。でも、これから一週間に２回程度、更新頑張ってしようと思ってる。たまにはチェックしてね。

さてさて、先日、家の近所の洋服屋さんPEDESTRIAN(http://4-5sanpokai.com/blog/kakizawa/)のオーナーさん柿澤さんにパーツの「みがき」を教えて頂きました。みがき＝ブリンブリン。つまり、パーツのアルマイトを落とせる事ですね。素人だと、中々自分でやろうと思わない作業なんだけど、柿澤先生に指導され、無事に出来上がりました～


1.First off, heres what youre gonna need. On the bottom picture, the bottom left cream is "aluminum compound". Ill explain what what does later on...
先ずは、こちらの素材が必要です。全て東急ハンズでそろってます。

きちんとアルマイトが付いてます。

2. First you gotta take your part(s), and spray the bitch with the Easy-Off on top of a piece of cardboard or something. The smell is pretty intense so DO NOT do this indoor. Unless u wanna get high. Then wait about 10min.

普通にパーツを全体的にスプレーをかける。匂いが本当に半端ないから、室外でやりましょう。そして、１０分待つこと。

3. Heres what she looks like after 10min. Pretty much looks like shit, and id be shitting my pants if i was doing this alone. So when it looks like this, just wash it off thoroughly with water.

１０分待ったらこうなるんだね。真っ黒。正直怖い！！！

これを水で流す。

水で洗ったあと、こんな感じです。全くつやつやなし。

4. Take the aluminum compound and some cotton balls, and rub the shit outta the stem. Slowly but surely, itll start looking like this.

アルミ・コンパウンドをコットンボールに付け、みがく。少しずつひかりが見えてくる。

After a mere 45min of rubbing the stem, here she is in all her glory...

45分ぐらいみがくと、出来上がり。こんな感じになる。

Heres a comparison shot. The tops my Pearl8 blinged, and the bottom is a Nitto65 with Almight still on. I know the Nitto NJ-PRO is already blinged, but this is on an aluminum part, AND it can be done on parts like the Pearl and N65 which do not come pre-blinged by Nitto. Btw, ill be doing my N65 as well.

Let me tell u it looks 10x better in person. These pictures really dont do it justice.

In addition, if you have a used part, which isnt in the greatest of condition, the Easy-Off spray will eat away at some of the scars on your part. Theres really no down side to this.

Well thats it in a nutshell. Ill be sure to take pics again when i do my N65 stem, maybe theyll come out cleaner. If u guys have any questions, feel free to ask. All in all, this only took like an hour or so total. Btw, do this at ur own risk. I just had to say it, ha.

Nitto65...

Finally found a 65 that was under 100mm. Preferably i wanted a 70mm, but im thinking that a 10mm difference isnt really that big. The lines on this stem are just beautiful. Its funny how people say "they dont make em like they used to", and its so true. Im not sure why Nitto doesnt re-produce these, as i think its one of the best looking threaded stems out there. To note, i believe the 70mm come in a 25.4 clamp diameter. Since this is a 26.0, luckily i had a shim laying around.

This Sunday ill be going to a friends shop to blingbling the shit outta this. Should be interesting as it will be the first time ill be doing it. For those who dont know what im talking about (which is probably all of u), ill snap some pics and hopefully a turorial on how to bring out the shine on your metal parts.

一週間前ぐらいに届いた日東の６５ステム。
まさき君見てるかな？！？笑
やっと手に入った。本当は７０ｍｍが理想だったけど、８０ｍｍで妥協。
ま・・１０ｍｍってそんなに変わんないしと思って、思わず落札した。
ハンドルも決まってて、今週の日曜日に近状のペデストリアンにお邪魔して、先輩の柿澤さんに「みがき」を教えていただくことになった。
ちょっと楽しみだね～今回、３台目はブリンブリンにするから、この「みがき」という技術がかなり重要になってくると思う。
相変わらずパシャパシャ撮るので、近日アップしまーす。

Fukuoka Love #1...

やっと名古屋に戻って、荷物整理がなんとなく落ち着いたので、これをずっと前からやろうと思ったとこ。
最後の方の送別会に来られなかった方や、最後に一言、言えなかった方が多い為、これをやろうと思った。遅くなってごめんね。あと、特に順番が決まってないので、最後の方なら気にしないで＾＾。
あ、あとね、ちょっと懐かしい写真を選ぼうと思ってやってます。たのしんでね＾＾。
あとあとあとね、これかなり時間がかかりそうだから程々に更新するね（ネットのつながりが遅いんだ！）。

マッチ君：　まだ最初にオオホリ公園で出会った時はっきり覚えてるよ！チェレステのビアンキにながーいハンドルに、ブレーキも？！笑。あれから結構仲良くなれたね～二人でKEOスピンにめちゃくちゃはまって、それからFAKIEに流れて・・・
自転車もそうなんだけど、自分もすごいお世話になったと思う。これからずっと福岡に居られるといいよね。もし実家に帰ることになったら、たまに東京に遊びにきてね！

つよし君：　オオホリでミックと出会ったとき覚えてるよ！最後の半年間あんまり一緒に乗ることができなかったけど、送別会で挨拶できてよかった。コアのシアトルズで女WATCHINGしてたのは覚えてるでしょ～笑。お兄さんが東京にいるから、また東京で会うことはできるよね！（ちなみに、今ヤフーオクでシャマル出してるでしょう・・笑）

まさ君：　いつも優しくて、チルなまさ君。始めて話す前に、チャリがイカツクて、ちょっと怖かったけど、こんなに仲良くなれると正直思わなかった。近々名古屋に遊びにくるんでしょ？！福岡でイベントをがんばってね。あと、ソファを大事に使って下さい＾＾。

こっちゃん：　はじめて会ったときからスタバで英会話教室になってたね。バカなとこが多いけど、面白くて、色々本当にお世話になった。合コンが残念ながらまだ成功してないけど、それを頑張ってね・笑。

Still here...

Im guessing most of you are thinking ive just gone lazy, maybe most of you think i have nothing to update about, maybe most of you are thinking that im just super busy with my moving and all, but im guessing that most of you guys dont give a sh!t...lol.

well its a mix of all of the above, minus the gone lazy. Things have been pretty hectic bc of the move, and ill be off to tokyo tmrw for a couple days before i go off to Guam to hit the beach and catch some rays. Once i get back, ive got alotta things to update about. Till then fellaz...

引越しが無事に終わりましたが、まだ全然落ち着かない。
部屋の中がダンボールだらけで、ネットもまだつながってないし（実家の2階の配線使ってる）、明日からちょっと東京に行くし、そのあとは家族とグアムに行くし・・・
嬉しいっちえば嬉しいけど・・やっぱり疲れる。
区役所も行かなきゃいけないし・・・はーーーーーーーーー。

ま・・・今日の昼ちょっと栄にでて、初チャリ乗りしました。
なんか、名古屋ってめっちゃ乗りやすい街だね！！！
道広いし、車もそんなに多くないし、信号も読みやすいし、あと路面もかなりキレイ。
スキッドが気持ちよく入るわ。

なんとなくネットがつながったから、これから部屋のネットがつながるまでなんとなくがんばろうと思ってます。また落ち着いたら、前みたいにまめに更新はすると思うけど、しばらく待っててね。

あとは最後に、福岡のホーミーズに最後の一言をあんまり言えなかった為、旅行から帰って来たら、BYEBYE更新したいと思ってる。意味不明だろｗ。ま・・楽しみにして。

Sakura...

Apologies for the lack of updates recently, ive been busy packing for my move.
Sakura trees are officially in full bloom here in Fukuoka (each region of japan has full bloom at slightly different times of the month) and i took a stroll in the park to take some shots.
Definitely gotta be one of the most beautiful seasons of the year.
Anywho, ive got some pictures i want to upload but theyll have to wait until i get back from my 2 day trip to the hot bathes with the fambam.

引越しの準備でバタバタしてて・・・
あと数日間しか残ってないので、できるだけ友達とチャリを乗ろうと思ってる。
月曜日の夜、ぶあいそのあと、みんなと最後（最後は言いたくないけど）に岩田屋前でちょっとセッションしようと思ってるけど、参加できる人参加して！
ちゃんとお別れの挨拶をしたいので。
今日から明日まで家族と別府に行くことで、また明日会おうね！～

is right around the corner and both the tires on my cannondale and kalavinka are about to go.
the kevlars just started to peek, so theyve still got some fight left in em but ill change em out before i move to nagoya just to begin on a "fresh" start.

全然まだ乗れるけど、引越しの前に新しいランドナーを今日中に付けにいこー。

新ステム。前は50mmでちょっと上半身が狭かった気がして、今回は90mmに兆戦。
5°上がりで、ハンドルの位置ももうちょっとラクになりそう。

My fricken Kalavinka...

ok i know lame. but my new mini bull horn looks like somethings gonna shoot outta its ends. seriously. it almost takes a little while to get used to looking at it from the side.

my first time riding a bull horn, and i must say, its quite comfortable. very recommendable for city use. relatively easy to get power to your pedals, and enough width to keep a comfy stance while cruising (or mashing for that case). although im enjoying this set-up, i have to admit i still prefer drops rather than bulls.

this is the nitto version that released recently.

ちょっと気分転換でチャラビンカに日東のミニ・ブルホーンをつけてみた。
個人的に初ブル・ホーンで、乗りやすくてびっくりした～
姿勢が大分ラクになるし、ダッシュ（もしくはマッシュ）する時にはちゃんと力が入る。
見た目は最初なれないけど・・時間が経つとそんなに悪くない。
（ブルもいいけど競輪フレームにはドロップが一番似合うね）

I tagged along with the bike shop owner Ichirou-san on one of his monthly visits to go buy keirin frames off of some racers in our local keirin dome. I thought it was going to be the usual routine where a racer brings out about 5-6 frames, some fully built, some just the frames alone, for us to inspect and bid on...

昨日は衝撃的の日曜日だった～
オーナーさんの一郎さんと一緒に競輪フレームの買い付けに行って来た。
いつも通り、５－６台ぐらいを見て、買って、すぐ帰ってくる予定だったけど、この日はいつもとちょっと違う日になった。

So once we get there, negotiations start, and surprisingly, one racer after another start bringing in their frames for us to look at. One of the racers asks us:

racer: hey do you wanna check out the locker room? we've got some cool frames (of course not for sale) just hanging out in there. its pretty cool...

us: are u kidding...

this is what racers see on the way to their locker room, or out to the velo.
"inoru!! kentou", which translated, means "Hope!! For a good fight".

And following are the shots i was able to take in the locker room.
So much keirin porn it almost blew my mind.
Next to this room where all these frames are hung is a room with about 3-4 rollers where there were 2 racers warming up their legs. Room smelled of mad body odor...but wut do u expect right.

そして、一郎さんが交渉に入ってた間、ある選手が「ちょっとロッカールーム見る？」って聞かれて・・

And being the Kalavinka whore that i am, this particular (and very nice) racer brought out his newly built Kalavinka to show me. If you look closely, the top tube, seat stay, and fork are matt black, while the rest of the frame is gloss black. He was telling me that he was testing it out for a couple of races and if he doesnt get good results, hes gonna get rid of it. *Raising hand.

The bank. Sucks for all the rain...one racer said they wouldve let me run the bank if the conditions werent so poor. SUCKS.

This was another racers build. An "illusion" model by Samson.

The "illusion" is Samsons top model, costing anywhere from around $2500-$3000 for a frame.

Reasons for the high cost are the intricate welding of the lugs.

ラグの溶接が「段差がなくなる」ぐらい薄くする、まさにGOD HANDの原田さん。

Kinda hard to see with my shitty photographing, but the lugs are welded so clean to the tubes, that when you touch it with your hand, you dont feel an edge. Its somewhat hard to describe, but if you ever see an "illusion" model in person, youll definitely know what im talking about.

The racer was telling me that Samson builder Harada-san might be one of the best welders of today.

A look into the bike case. They look custom made, with hooks for your fork and ends to make sure the bike doesnt shift and get damaged while being delivered.

We came out with...15-20 frames? and a buncha rims and extra parts.

It was a tiring, but exciting day. I think ill go bum around the shop after work today and try to find some hidden gems among the parts. Ill also try to take some pictures of some of the frames we were able to get our grubby hands on.

今日はいい買い物できたと思う！

残念ながら自分に合うサイズのフレームがなかったので、３台目はもうちょっと時間がかかりそう。

１５台？２０台？ぐらい買ったので、今度お店に行ったらパシャパシャ写真を撮ろうと思ってる。
